With its origin in the analytical skills developed during reliability engineering, consulting has been carried out in a number of specialist areas.
These include:
  • Design for reliability - Testing methodogy
  • Retail strategy (bricks and mortar + online)
  • Y2K - Web strategy (layout, eCommerce)
  • eProcurement - Business management
  • Sales strategy
Achievements

Created test processes accross the range of consulting specialities.
Sales

Practice "Solutions Selling".  This can have a longer sales cycle than traditional "in the face selling", but is built on trust, and will result in higher revenues over the long term.

When challenged on sales skills in 2006, took the "Home Improvement" test. Worked for a company selling guttering and facias. Converted 2 out of 3 leads, resulting in additional revenue of £80,000 per week!

Equally at home generating new business or managing existing accounts.
Achievements

Brokered a deal between two Finance sector organisations, benefiting my client with an 800% increase in potential work.  
Project Management

Many reliability development programmes have been project-managed.

Also, have been Project Manager for:
  • Rail and Banking Y2K;
  • Euro conversion across several organisations;
  • Affiliate marketing programmes;
  • Tender or Bid processes.

Trained by IBM in PM and attended the Kepner Tregoe PM workshop.  
Achievements

Euro conversion completed ahead of schedule.  
Training

After completing software training course, product training to customers on OS/400 was part of the job role.

Delivering training continued with development of training courses to affiliate marketing managers and executives of large retail organisations.  
Achievements

Achieved 99% positive feedback from courses given.  
Management and Motivation

Successfully run several teams, with people at all levels of their personal development. "Open Door" policy is practiced and anything can be up for discussion.

Motivation is part of key management skills.

Having worked as a manager, and part of a team being managed, this creates a balanced perspective, and is happy to be well-managed.

Mediation and Negotiation

When a member of the Institue for Independent Business, volunteered to take part in specialist mediation and negotiation training.
This has been applied in a number of situations since, but obviously details are confidential!  
Solutions Selling

Took part in a course conducted by Solutions Selling Inc.

Solutions Selling means:
  • Fully understand each customer’s critical business issues, their causes and effects
  • Identify the real influencers in the decision process quickly.
  • Identify customer buying procedures and protocols early in the sales cycle.
  • Accurately predict the timing for closing of the sale.
  • Minimize discounts and protect margins at closing.

This process takes considerably longer in the Public Sector, and is not recognised by a number of companies who wish to enter this market.

It takes time to develop the relationships and build trust. Buyers in Public Sector may spend a few Pounds on trivial items without too much effort, but larger amounts are subject to a legal minefield.
